Meet the Photographer

I capture souls & the magic of life…”

NORTH CAROLINA based Visual & Aesthetics Architect and Freelance Photographer who specializes in

Photographic Hyperrealism

I truly believe that every single human on this planet has something beautiful about them, even if they aren’t always able to see that within or for themselves. My goal is to show people their wholeness. Exactly and as beautifully as I see them.

I live in the E T H E R E A L realm. My shooting style can best be described as Intentional Etherealism. The way I see the world has a rose gold tint with Black lace wrapped around the edges. As a New Orleans native, I’ve been in loving community with Black folx for as long as I can remember, and have always had a passion for advancing my people in whatever ways I can. For now, I just want us to see the magic within ourselves. Easily accessible & ever-evolving.

More About Maddie the Photog

Being a New Orleans native means that I’ve been in loving community with Black folx for as long as I can remember, and have always had a passion for navigating my people through socio-political, expansive practices that aid and expand the Black experience as a whole.

So, in addition to my creative portrait work, I am also involved in cultural, narrative-shift work that amplifies the representational justice of & gives full life to the voices of Black girls, women, femmes and gender-expansive youth.

  • The Beautiful Project contributes to cultural efforts to render Black people, specifically Black girls, gender-expansive youth, and women, as visible, dignified and diverse in this politicized terrain.

Our programs empower them to be change agents equipped to confront and dismantle the pervasive stereotypes that impact their safety and well-being.

As the Associate Director of Artist Training for The Beautiful Project - a Durham, NC based arts education non-profit - my ambition is to teach young, Black artists the way of intentional creation and its impact on narrative freedom. My goal is to foster within them the potential of cultivating their own voice and power with the discovery and development of their creative visions empowered through community engagement & collective healing.

  • THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

This is a curated intergenerational exchange, a space for exploration, mentorship, intimacy, and vulnerability around life, identity and change. It’s the excavation of the things that you needed to know about your personhood through the years, but were never told. It’s the guide we wish we had access to no matter our age.

    Learn More About the Podcast

In 2023, I launched my work as a creative consultant with Omisade Burney-Scott, the creator and curator of The Black Girl’s Guide to Surviving Menopause, a US-based culture and narrative shift multidisciplinary project focused on normalizing menopause and aging. We do this by centering the first-person narratives of Black women, women-identified and gender-expansive people.

In 2023, BGG2SM traveled to the UK, New York, Toronto and Puerto Rico to deepened our intergenerational work by co-creating peer learning exchanges aimed at normalizing the menopause experience of Black people.

These co-hosted, storytelling events called "Orisii" ("pairs" in Yoruba), were held in partnership with local community-based organizations.

My role as Visual Creative Advisor & Documentary Production Manager offered my experience in visual & creative design to ensure that each trip was uniquely documented via audio, video, and photographic triptychs that were shared back with the BGG2SM community via the organization’s podcast (Reimagining Season 5), social media platforms, BGG newsletter, website, and Patreon.
